I first read The Phantom Tollbooth in elementary and it was a little confusing then. Now It’s funny looking back and seeing how much I understand compared to then. But something that still confuses me is why the Mathematician has a huge pencil for a staff. It would make more sense to me if he carried around a calculator. Something else that confuses me is why the Senses Taker couldn’t take away the sense of humor. It’s not explained, it just says that he cannot take the sense of laughter away. I don’t get it.
