In To Kill a Mockingbird after Jem and Scout make it home and everyone is trying to figure out what happened, Sheriff Heck Tate says that Bob Ewell fell on his knife during the fight. Bob Ewell was stalking Jem and Scout after they left the halloween party and after they reached the oak tree on the edge of the schoolyard, Bob decided to stop being sneaky and went on a full out assault on them. When Bob broke Jem’s arm he must’ve fallen on his knife and killed himself.

My theory is that Bob was not impaled on his knife, I think that he was murdered by Boo Radley. After Bob died, Boo Radley finally left his house and carried Jem to his house. I think that, before Boo Radley picked up Jem, he picked up Bob’s knife and stabbed him with it. This would make sense because Bob wouldn’t have seen him coming, Boo Radley would’ve had a great opportunity because he is the last person anyone would’ve expected to come along in the middle of the night, and Bob was drunk out of his mind so I highly doubt his senses would’ve been very acute.
